Will Smith to Develop Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Spin-Off: Report
In a new story published on Wednesday (Oct. 9), Will Smith's entertainment company Westbrook Inc. confirmed a Fresh Prince spin-off. Thus far, however, little details have been revealed.
"In addition to producing Smith-fronted film projects, Westbrook is developing a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air 沙巴体育备用网址spinoff series (he still earns hefty royalties from the 1990's NBC sitcom, now licensed to air in 193 territories)," the article reads.
沙巴体育备用网址Westbrook Inc. was launched by Will in July of this year alongside his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. According to the report, the "cross-platform holding company is designed to expand the Smith family brand beyond film and TV into new media, technology and even merchandising."
In a video he posted to his Instagram account last year, Will recounted how the release and subsequent flop of his 1989 album with DJ Jazzy Jeff, And in This Corner..., led to him taking on the Fresh Prince gig that would ultimately go change his life.
During a 1989 visit to The Arsenio Hall Show, which was one he took after And in This Corner...沙巴体育备用网址 failed to get the commercial success, Will met former Warner Bros. Records A&R Benny Medina, who offered him an audition for the show on the spot. Will was nervous because he wasn't prepared, but ultimately went through with it and of course, landed the gig.
"So, the moral of the story is, always say yes, and I guess, listen to your girlfriend," Will said, referring to the fact that it was his then-girlfriend who recommended he hit up The Arsenio Hall Show.
